Title: SDLC in Transition for 2012: Industry update on Project Management and Business Analyst
Presentation Summary:
In this presentation we will look at the past roles of the PM and BA, we will discuss how the IIBA view of BA work has significantly changed industries prospective on what a BA does and how this change has impacted PM / BA interaction. As the economic instability grew, we will discuss the outsourcing trend and the continued mainstreaming of agile methods and where the BA / PM fit into these changes. In the end we will discuss potential future outcomes and the skills and tools both BA and PMs need to consider for 2012 and beyond.
Information for this presentation has been gain through three years of salary surveys done by ASPE-SDLC on both the PM and BA roles, from multiple customer interviews related to training and skills development, to discussion with thought leads and from reviewing trends in training courses requested and taken.
This presentation is not a technical deep dive but a detailed and research analysis of direct of the PM and BA role based on the industry requirements and economic realities.

David Mantica, President of ASPE Inc.
David Mantica has more than 17 years of experience in business to business continuing education in executive, product management, marketing and operations capacities. He has led or conducted the product manage effort around the initiation, development and delivery of more than 300 instructor-led and live online training courses covering topics in software development life cycle, IT, telecommunications, financial, healthcare IT and marketing industries. David was instrumental in the development and delivery of the training industries first voice over IP enabled live instructor led training course(s) for public consumption and chaired CompTIA’s Learning Alliance formulation committee. He was on the boards of the DSLcon, Frame Relaycon, STP Conferences and Raleigh Latin School, and is currently on the board of IIOM (International Institute of Outsourced Management).
David has participated in numerous certification committees and supported the work of certifying bodies including the Scrum Alliance, PMI, IIBA, TruSecure and CompTIA. He currently writes weekly on the ASPE-SDLC and ASPE-ROI blogs, and has published salary surveys for Agile, product management and business analysis in 2009 and 2010. David has also spoke at numerous IIBA and PMI chapter meetings, Comdex Chicago, OSP Conference, ACUTA conference, 1-jobs Career Fairs and has facilitated more than 30 web seminars informing more than 3,00 business professionals on business technology topics. David’s expertise is in understanding the business drivers that underscore the need for technology, and finding a market place for educational products to help professionals achieve competitive advantage through the alignment of business and IT.
