Business Process Management (BPM) is arguably the most talked about management discipline around. Managing business from a process orientation is not new, however given the economic conditions, global competition and other factors, organizations are renewing their focus on process.
BPM presents an interesting and often challenging opportunity for both business and IT. Companies that take advantage of the tremendous benefits afforded by BPM, recognize that it impacts all aspects of their business. As the lines between business and IT blur, and BPM technologies continue to mature, business analysts, IT developers and business process owners need to rethink how they approach their particular disciplines.
We will look at what BPM is and what it is not. We will consider aspects of BPM important to business analysts, like process modeling, and what BA’s need to understand when working in a process-centric environment. Then, we will examine the characteristics of world-class process managed organizations and how they differ from traditional business models.
